Opinion: why Naloxone training is important

109

Editor for the Langara Voice, Joe Ayres, explains why they believe Langara college should offer free Naloxone training to its students.

Langara College hosts semi-regular Naloxone training events that are free for students to attend and provides those students with free harm reduction supplies, including a Naloxone kit. Naloxone is an overdose prevention medication that reverses the effect of overdoses to save lives. An opioid overdose is what happens when too many opioids have entered the body, causing breathing to become dangerously low and even stop. When Naloxone is administered it allows the body to resume breathing normally. In 2018 B.C. saw 1,546 opioid related deaths.
