PACWEST BC announced their men’s and women’s awards in basketball ahead of the season finale provincial tournament at Camosun College this weekend.

On the heels of their amazing 20-1 season, Falcons playmaking guard Brody Greig was named player of the year while head coach Paul Eberhardt was named coach of the year.

It’s the second honour this week for Greig, who was also named to the first all-star team with Jesse Jeffers while Elliot Mason was named to the second team.

The Richmond native averaged a league leading 9.29 assists this year and says he models his game after Rajon Rondo.

For coach Ebe, the award is a stamp on his highly successful debut at Langara. Eberhardt took over the reigns after Jake McCallum resigned in May to become the athletics director. He previously led R.C. Palmer Secondary to the AAA Basketball championship in 2011 and won a 2003 provincial title with Capilano College.

Athletics department assistant Carly Scarr said that she’s extremely excited by the honours.

“We’re very proud of both of them, it’s been an excellent year,” she said. “Brody’s been a big part of our success and to see Paul back in the league and bring his up-tempo game with him has been inspiring. We’re very hopeful heading into this weekend.”

The Falcons will have a first round bye this weekend as they try to win the college’s first provincial title since 1999 and punch their ticket to Quebec for the national championships.
