Langara photojournalism instructor Les Bazso’s pictures will be among those displayed during NEWS!, a photo show tracing the history of the Lower Mainland by peering into the picture archives of The Vancouver Sun and The Province.

The event showcases 500 photographs picked from the collection of both newspapers — which spans over a million prints — that were shot from the 1880s up until the 1990s.

Viewers can chart the evolution of photojournalism, starting from when newspapers phased out illustrated pictures to the heydays of the craft in the 1960s when staff photographers were frequently employed and beyond.

The opening reception will be held Feb. 14 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m and will be hosted by Harold Munro and Wayne Moriarty, the respective Editors-in-Chief of The Vancouver Sun and The Province.

The event takes place in a satellite gallery, which is located on the second floor of 560 Seymour and will be open Wednesday to Saturday 12:00 to 6:00  p.m. until March 30.
