For the fifth year running the Langara Library has committed to helping students survive exam period with De-Stress Fest.

Dan Slessor is the librarian in charge of the event and he is excited to help students during the hardest part of the semester.

“They appreciate the chance to just smile during what can be a stressful time,” Slessor said.

Langara first-year health sciences student Emma Wiig said she feels a lot of added stress this time of year and thinks the event sounds fun and helpful. She does have her own routine for dealing with stress though.

“Listen to music, drink tea, go for walks, stuff like that,” Wiig said.

This year’s event will provide students with refreshments, extra study help, colouring stations and free massages from Langara massage therapy students. Also, the library will be open for extended hours: Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m to 7 p.m.

Not all of the event’s perks are the same year to year. Previous De-Stress Fests have included a visit from Cookie Monster, a giant Scrabble board and therapy dogs. However, Slessor is tight-lipped about what might be in store for this semester.

“We may have a few surprises along the way,” Slessor said.

De-Stress Fest Spring 2017 is happening March 29 to April 12.
