An affordable 1960’s era apartment building in south Vancouver has been rezoned to make way for upscale condos, leaving its current low income residents with no place top go.
The 22-unit block on Fraser Street was approved for demolition by the City of Vancouver earlier this month. The building going in its place will see monthly rent rates nearly double that of current rates.
“It seems like we’re being moved along, with no regard to the fact that this is a great place for low income people, transitional people, you know, such as myself,” said current resident Shazia Usmani.
